It was about this time last year that Ken Ramsey announced his intention to switch Kitten’s Joy, the horse that he had developed into such an international sire at his Ramsey Farm, to Europe.

Ramsey cited his frustration with the ongoing lack of commercial respect toward his stallion, which lingers despite the fact that Kitten’s Joy has consistently led the way among all American turf stallions since 2013.

It is easy to see where Ramsey was coming from. Only days previously at the 2017 Keeneland September Sale, Kitten’s Joy had returned an average of $114,464, a miserly return on his $100,000 fee (at the time of writing, it stands at $124,838 for this year’s renewal).
