The clue is in the name. If you are going to launch a racing club under the name of Everest the goal should be an attempt to scale the greatest heights this sport presents.

When Malavath and Christophe Soumillon are loaded into the stalls at Newmarket on Sunday for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, more than 20 people - many of them relatively new to the game - will be preparing for what they hope will be the final few steps on to one of racing's major summits.

The daughter of Mehmas has already taken her syndicate owners on quite the ride, via Group-race success at Chantilly and Deauville and a heart-pounding charge into the runner-up's spot at Del Mar at the climax of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
