Breeders in Europe might not be ready to charter a flight to repatriate Makfi from Japan just yet, but in light of recent results they could be wondering wistfully whether they wrote the stallion off a little too quickly.

Considered a disappointment by many in the industry early in his stud career, he has enjoyed something of a revival in the last year.

First there was Mkfancy, a colt from the sire's last European-conceived crop who bolted up in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud last season; then there was the fine start made by his Classic-winning son Make Believe with his first runners, which was sealed by Mishriff's victory in this month's Prix du Jockey Club.
