Phoenix Stakes winner Lucky Vega and his fellow Irish National Stud new stallion, Nando Parrado, who won the Coventry Stakes, have both had their first mares scanned in foal.

Placed in the 2,000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes and Middle Park for Jessica Harrington, Lope De Vega's son Lucky Vega has made the perfect start to his second career.

Among the early mares safely scanned in foal to the Railway Stakes winner is Solar Event, a Galileo three-parts sister to the Group 2 winner Time On and to Time Control, the dam of Moyglare Stakes winner Cursory Glance and second dam of Grade 1 Turf Classic Stakes winner Digital Age.

Lucky Vega, who began his stallion career at his owner Yulong Investment's Australian base last year, returned to Ireland for the northern hemisphere breeding season at a fee of €15,000 and has attracted an impressive debut book of mares.

"Lucky Vega has been enthusiastically received by Irish breeders and the quality among his first book of mares, including Group 1 winner Miss Keller, Scarlett Rose, dam of champion sprinter Blue Point, and Sussex Stakes winner Alcohol Free's dam Plying, is exceptional for a first-season sire," said Cathal Beale, CEO of the Irish National Stud.

Not to be outdone, Nando Parrado has also made a flying start to his stallion career at Tully, with the Prix Morny and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere runner-up having his first mares scanned in foal.

They include Cafetiere, a winning daughter of Iffraaj who has produced two winners and the Norfolk Stakes third Imperial Force from her first three runners.

"Nando Parrado, a Royal Ascot-winning and multiple Group 1-placed two-year-old, is by sire of sires Kodiac and is an exceptional physical specimen," added Beale of Ballyphilip Stud's 165,000gns foal purchase from a top-class Argentine family.
