Lethal Force sold to continue stallion career at Haras de Grandcamp

Lethal Force, the sire of this season's high-class two-year-old Golden Horde, has been sold to continue his stallion career at Haras de Grandcamp in Normandy.

The ten-year-old son of Dark Angel, a winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and July Cup in his racecourse pomp, has been stationed at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket since the outset of his second career in 2014.

Golden Horde, who has won the Richmond Stakes and finished placed behind Earthlight in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes for Lethal Force's trainer Clive Cox, is the only stakes winner to have emerged from the sire's first three crops of racing age.

Lethal Force is however also the source of Group-placed Konchek, Mokaatil and Would Be King, as well as smart sprint handicapper Flavius Titus and the progressive Lethal Lunch.

Haras de Grandcamp's Eric Lhermite told Jour de Galop: “We're always searching for stallions who can pass on speed and precocity, and Lethal Force is a beautiful horse.

“He has shown with his early crops that he can get quality horses, not least through Golden Horde, who has been beaten twice by Earthlight – and we can't blame the horse for being born in the same year as a phenomenon.

“Dark Angel has made a big impact on the European breeding scene, not just as a sire but as a sire of sires, and Lethal Force also has the advantage of having some different names in his maternal family, and so will be an outcross to many mares.”

Lethal Force will stand next year's breeding season at Grandcamp at a fee of €6,000, alongside other emigres from the British and Irish stallion ranks such as Dream Ahead and Lawman – the first named enjoying a fine spell by supplying Group 1-winning sprinters Donjuan Triumphant and Glass Slippers in recent weeks.

“Lethal Force has been bought by a group of breeders and we feel €6,000 is a very competitive price given his profile,” added Lhermite.

“We've already had some success with stallions who started their careers abroad, as is the case with Dream Ahead who since his arrival with us has been represented by two Group 1 winners in France in Al Wukair and Glass Slippers.”

Lethal Force was bred by Declan Johnson out of the unraced Desert Style mare Land Army, a half-sister to the speedy racemare Flanders, dam of Haydock Sprint Cup hero G Force and granddam of Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Flotilla.
