Top US consignor Select Sales Agency to cease operations and dissolve
Former partner Jay Goodwin announces he is joining Eaton Sales
The dissolution of Select Sales Agency was announced on Sunday via a statement from Select Sales partner Andrew Cary.
The consignment will cease operations following the conclusion of the Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday in Lexington, Kentucky.
"Select Sales will be dissolving effective with the end of the Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale," Cary said Sunday. "We've had a great run with incredible success for 11 years and the partners have decided to go in different directions and explore new opportunities.
"It's an amicable dissolution. We'd like to thank all of our clients who helped us go from nothing at the start to one of the leading consignors."
The announcement comes on the heels of Sunday's statement from Eaton Sales that another former Select Sales partner, Jay Goodwin, will be joining their team as an account manager.
"We're all very excited to welcome Jay to Eaton Sales," said Reiley McDonald. "He understands horse sales as well as anyone in the business and has a reputation for honesty and hard work. We're excited to start the year with his addition."
Goodwin, who moved to Lexington in 2005, took an initial job with Liberty Farm before entering into partnership with Select Sales where he has remained for the past ten years.
"To join a name like Eaton Sales, Reiley McDonald, and Ben McElroy was a no brainer for me," said Goodwin. "I started getting the BloodHorse magazine 30 years ago and since then Reiley and Eaton Sales have been names that have led and landscaped the sales ring in North America.
"Ben is without a doubt one of the best bloodstock agents in the business. Teaming up with two guys at the top of our industry is very exciting and I'm ready to hit the ground running."
Select Sales founding partner Carrie Brogden, who co-owns and operates Machmer Hall farm, will continue working within the realm of sales as an independent bloodstock agent and will continue consigning under the new entity of Machmer Hall Sales.
Her personal plans will be announced at a later date. When asked for comment Brogden said she was extremely happy for Goodwin, wished him well in his transition, and believes he will make a great addition to the Eaton Sales team.
During their 11 years in operation, Select Sales has sent a bevy of Graded stakes winners through the sales ring that have gone on to earn the highest accolades on and off the track.
Among their most notable graduates are Grade 1 winners Sharp Azteca, Decked Out, Dream Tree, Gift Box, Mind Your Biscuits, Promises Fulfilled, Birdatthewire, Twilight Eclipse, Mucho Gusto and two-time champion grass mare Tepin.
Other recognisable Graded stakes-winning graduates of note include Maximus Mischief, Money Multiplier, American Anthem, Spellbound, Vyjack, Intense Holiday, My Wandy's Girl and Stonetastic.
Select Sales also consigned Gouverneur Morris, a three-year-old son of Constitution with immediate aspirations on this year's Triple Crown trail.
