La Bague Au Roi entered as broodmare prospect in Doncaster January Sale
Warren Greatrex trained the mare to two Grade 1 victories
Grade 1-winning mare La Bague Au Roi is bound for the paddocks after being included in the breeding stock section at next month's Goffs UK January Sale.
The popular nine-year-old won an impressive 14 times from 28 career starts for trainer Warren Greatrex in the colours of owners Mrs Julien Turner and Andrew Merriam.
Although the winner of a Listed bumper and Grade 2 hurdle, La Bague Au Roi reached her pinnacle over fences, particularly with a defeat of Topofthegame and Santini in the 2018 Kauto Star Novices' Chase, followed up by the Grade 1 Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown.
She has failed to hit such heights since, finishing eighth on her most recent racecourse appearance in the Ladbrokes Trophy.
Greatrex said: "She is a gorgeous, tough and hugely talented mare and one of the best horses I have trained.
"She is a horse I will never forget and she has been massive for my career. We will miss her in the yard and wish her the very best for the next stage of her career."
La Bague Au Roi will be consigned by Mill House Stud in the event at Doncaster between January 26 and 27.
By Doctor Dino and bred by the Comtesse Bertrand De Tarragon, the mare is a half-sister to useful winners Reine Angevine and Franche Alliance. Her dam, Alliance Royale, is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winners Walt and Plaisir Du Roy.
The Doncaster January Sale also includes a National Hunt foal session, along with horses in training and point-to-point prospects.
