Kingman's price rise was expected - but caution is present in his own home

There has been such a feeding frenzy around Kingman over the past year or so that the news his fee will double for 2020 will not cause a great deal of surprise around the industry.

A variety of reasons contribute to his elevated position at £150,000. On the track, his first two crops have already made impressive progress, with a Classic winner already in Persian King, who could have achieved more if not for being on the sidelines all summer, and authentic prospects for next year like the unbeaten Palace Pier.

Second, his latest progeny have sold lucratively. Kingman was behind only Dubawi on Tattersalls Book 1 takings, helped by a pair of colts bought for a combined 4,100,000gns, and he set a new record high of £440,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Sale with another. This year, his yearling average across Europe had jumped around £50,000 to £317,933.
