Italian Oaks glory for Sunnyhill Stud's new stallion Casamento
Casamento’s vocation is likely to be as a dual-purpose stallion following his move to stand at Michael Hickey's Sunnyhill Stud for this season but he offered a reminder of his capability on the Flat with a Classic winner at San Siro on Sunday.
His daughter Lamaire, a winner and Listed placed already for trainer Riccardo Santini, came with a flying finish in the Oaks d’Italia to deprive Must Be Late almost on the line. She is now a Group 2-winning homebred for Razza Dormello Olgiata, out of their own Kalanisi mare Lilanga
Casamento was switched to Sunnyhill for this season, with the Darley-owned stallion standing for his first three campaigns at Kildangan Stud and thenext two at Dalham Hall before a year in Sweden.
The Beresford and Vertem Futurity [formerly Racing Post Trophy] winner has produced a few useful Flat performers already and has had a string of good results in 2019. They include Mark Johnston's durable Communique - who won the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket in the spring - and Amada, another Italian-trained runner who collected the Grade 2 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational.
Casamento also has an impressive victory in American jumping to his name through City Dreamer, who took last month’s Marcellus Frost Champion Hurdle at Percy Warner Park.
