Yearling entries for 2019 Derby revealed

The 2019 Investec Derby yearling entries have been revealed and feature the progeny of many past Derby winners, such as Galileo and Sea The Stars, and superstar racemares including Danedream and Estimate.

The Coolmore partners - who have dominated the race in recent times with the likes of High Chaparral (2002), Pour Moi (2011), Camelot (2012), Ruler Of The World (2013), Australia (2014) and Wings Of Eagles (2017) - have no less than 45 entries which include 30 sons of Galileo.

The 2001 winner is the best represented sire with 46 entries, followed by his son Australia with 23 and half-brother Sea The Stars with 22.

Among the highlights of the Coolmore contingent are the Frankel colt out of Belesta - this year's €1.6 million Goffs Orby sale-topper, an Australia colt out of four-time Group 1 winner Peeping Fawn, and brothers to Churchill and Highland Reel.

The Aga Khan - who temporarily halted the Coolmore domination in 2016 with Harzand - has 22 representatives. Of these, the most exciting is an Invincible Spirit colt out of the unbeaten Arc-winning superstar Zarkava.

Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, who won the race with Nashwan (1989) and Erhaab (1994), has 21 entries. Faylaq, the 1,500,000gns Dubawi colt out of Danedream, is in training with William Haggas, while Maydanny, by the same sire out of Attraction, was purchased for 1,350,000gns and is in training with Mark Johnston.

There would not be many more popular winners on the Epsom Downs if one of the Queen's five entries were to provide her with a first win in the race. Her standout entry is the Dubawi colt out of her beloved Ascot Gold Cup heroine Estimate.

Rising forces in the racing world have also made some noteworthy entries, including Thai businessman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, owner of Leicester City Football Club who races under the King Power banner, and Phoenix Thoroughbreds.

King Power have entered nine yearlings in the race, including four sons of Frankel and a 500,000gns Australia colt already named Bangkok. Big spenders Phoenix Thoroughbreds have a trio of entrants, including a pair of seven-figure purchases, a 1,000,000gns Sea The Stars colt and a $1.1m son of War Front.
