Welsh breeder Howard Joyce dies aged 80

Best-known horse he bred was 1995 Stewards' Cup winner Shikari's Son

Howard Joyce, owner of Pantaquesta Stud in Miskin, South Wales, died last week aged 80 after a long career breeding and owning racehorses.

Joyce ran a small breeding operation on his Welsh stud with a maximum of five broodmares at any one time: however, that did not limit his success on the track, with his most famous winner as a breeder coming with Shikari's Son victory in the Stewards' Cup under Richard Hughes in 1995.

Another of Joyce's best horses was Sipsi Fach, a daughter of Prince Sabo who carried his silks to win four races including the Listed Yorkshire Stakes in 1991, before retiring and becoming a broodmare at his stud and producing the useful handicapper Supply And Demand.
