'Two Group winners in one day isn't bad'

It was a red-letter day for Croom House Stud at Goodwood on Thursday with two of their graduates, Mehmas and California, providing the operation with a Group-race double.

The County Limerick nursery, which has been operating since 1986, is no stranger to success having bred the likes of Group 1 hero Zoffany, Moyglare Stud Stakes heroine Maybe, Grade 1 winner Subtle Power and most recently Illuminate, winner of the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and the Albany Stakes.

Owned by Denis Brosnan, the operation is run by his eldest son Cathal in conjunction with general manager Joe Hartigan, and currently has a band of 30 broodmares.
