In the first race of the Irish Flat season this year, My Silver Nails had the opportunity to make amends for her sire Tough As Nails, who 'won' the same race in 2011 only to be demoted to second by the stewards.

Although the grey filly finished fourth on that occasion, she did provide her precocious sire with his first winner at the Curragh on Saturday - a course where he had raced six times without ever being confirmed the winner - from his first crop of 14 foals.

Two daughters of first-season sires fought out the finish of the 6f nursery handicap with My Silver Nails winning by nearly three lengths from the Al Kazeem filly Golden Spell.

My Silver Nails is trained in County Meath by Michael Mulvany for his father Larry, the same owner-trainer combination as Tough As Nails and My Silver Nails' dam The Silver Crown, a winner of three handicaps in the summer of 2010.

The first son of Dark Angel to have a runner, Tough As Nails showed plenty of class as a juvenile, finishing third to La Collina in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. He stands at Old Meadow Stud, where he was advertised this year at a fee of €3,000.

The Silver Crown also has a yearling filly by Tough As Nails.
