Tough and talented Sri Putra supplies first winner at stud
Supergirl opens her account in Deauville claimer
Sri Putra, the York Stakes winner who twice hit the frame in the Coral-Eclipse, got off the mark at stud when his daughter Supergirl ran out a two-length winner of a 7½f claimer on the all-weather at Deauville on Wednesday.
Bred by P Lemarie and members of the Simon family, the filly was having her fifth start for trainer Mario Hofer - who picked her up for €8,000 at Arqana last year - and was ridden by the trainer's daughter Stefanie.
Supergirl was raised at Haras du Saz - the home of her sire - and is one of three runners to date for the 11-year-old son of Oasis Dream.

Sri Putra was trained in the early part of his career by Michael Jarvis for Sultan Ahmad Shah, and won the Group 3 Solario Stakes over 7f at two. His next Group win came in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at three, an effort that was followed by success in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes at four before he finished a half-length behind Twice Over in the 2010 Coral-Eclipse.
Roger Varian took charge of Sri Putra for his five-year-old campaign, during which he again managed to place in the Coral-Eclipse when he finished a creditable third to So You Think. He was also third behind the ill-fated Rewilding in the 2011 Prince Of Wales's Stakes.
Sri Putra earned his joint-highest Racing Post Rating of 118 for winning the Group 2 York Stakes over 1m2½f at six, and made four more starts at seven before his retirement to stud in 2014. He stood the most recent breeding season at Saz at a fee of €2,500.
Bred by Glebe Stud and partners, Sri Putra is a sibling to three winners, out of an unraced half-sister to Prix de Diane heroine Caerlina, granddam of this year's Prix Jacques le Marois winner Al Wukair - who is due to stand at Haras de Bouquetot in 2018.
