Wisconsin took another step towards living up to his brilliant international pedigree by breaking his maiden on his second start in a 1m4½f three-year-old contest at Tipperary on Thursday.

The colt, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by daughter Ana, raced prominently and took up the running two furlongs home, only having to be pushed out to defeat the keeping-on runner-up Steel Prince, a Nathaniel half-brother to Canadian International heroine Sarah Lynx, by a length.

Wisconsin, who holds entries in the King Edward VII Stakes and Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, is by multiple champion Japanese sire Deep Impact out of Coolmore's outstanding racemare Peeping Fawn.

Deep Impact, a 15-year-old son of the game-changing Sunday Silence, has supplied 29 Group/Grade 1 winners, including A Shin Hikari and Beauty Parlour, who struck at the highest level in Europe.

His son Wisconsin is the fourth foal produced by the Danehill mare Peeping Fawn, who finished third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and second in the Oaks before embarking on a winning spree in four Group 1s – the Pretty Polly Stakes, Irish Oaks, Nassau Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks, all in her only season to race in 2007.

Peeping Fawn has produced two winners, the best of which is the Henrythenavigator colt Sir John Hawkins, who finished third in the Coventry Stakes. She also has a two-year-old filly by Deep Impact called September and an unnamed yearling colt by Australia.

Peeping Fawn has a fine pedigree, as a half-sister to Criterium International winner Thewayyouare out of Fillies' Mile second Maryinsky, a daughter of Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride and thus a half-sister to ace US broodmare Better Than Honour, the dam of two Belmont Stakes winners in Jazil and Rags To Riches.

Blush With Pride was in turn a daughter of legendary blue hen Best In Show, whose descendants include champions in various disciplines Close Hatches, El Gran Senor, Redoute's Choice, Spinning World, Try My Best and Xaar.

Wisconsin may not soar to the heights of those superstars but his victory at Tipperary suggested he will be able to do his bit to uphold family honour.
