The Last Lion set for a shuttle trip to Darley's Kelvinside base

Australian breeders are to gain access to a tough and top-class two-year-old talent, as The Last Lion will shuttle to Darley's Kelvinside base in New South Wales later this year.

The son of Australian sprint sensation Choisir is standing his first season at Kildangan Stud in County Kildare at a fee of €12,000.

Last year at two he won the Brocklesby Stakes, Dragon Stakes, Sirenia Stakes and Middle Park Stakes and finished second in the Norfolk Stakes, Molecomb Stakes and Flying Childers.

In ten starts for trainer Mark Johnston and owners John Brown and Megan Dennis The Last Lion never finished out of the first three.

Alastair Pulford, head of sales for Darley stallions in Australia, said: “The success of Danehill-line speed stallions here in Australia has been phenomenal and we are delighted to have two more young stallions who fit that criteria joining our roster this season with The Last Lion at Kelvinside and Holler at Northwood Park.

“The Last Lion was tough and precocious, exactly what the Australian market looks for in a stallion. He also boasts a strong female family. His dam was Group 1-placed on multiple occasions herself as a juvenile and she is a producer of two other stakes winners already.”

The Last Lion is out of the Brief Truce mare Mala Mala, third in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes and a half-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Tarascon.

Mala Mala is also the dam of Listed scorers Contest and Russian Rock.
