Bred by Barronstown Stud and trainer Tommy Stack, The Last Lion is the ninth foal out of the winning and Group 1-placed Brief Truce mare Mala Mala. He is a half-brother to the Listed-winning pair Russian Rock and Contest and to 7f winner Horizon Sky.
