Stronach to sell his main farm in Kentucky

Frank Stronach – whose Stronach Group operates a number of racecourses in California, Maryland and Florida, including last year's Breeders' Cup venue Santa Anita – is to put his main Adena Springs Farm in Paris, Kentucky up for sale.

The prominent owner-breeder is exploring the possibility of having breeding farms in California and Maryland in support of his tracks there.

His principal farm in Kentucky currently houses nine stallions, including homebreds Awesome Again and Ghostzapper and the Adena-raced Mucho Macho Man, who all appear on the roll of honour of the Breeders' Cup Classic. All nine are expected to remain in Kentucky until at least the end of the 2018 breeding season.

The staff at the main farm will be relocated to the smaller branch of Adena Springs in Midway, Kentucky, where a new office, stallion barn and breeding shed will be built.

"We have nothing against Kentucky and will continue to have a presence there," Stronach told Blood-Horse.

"But we need to come up with a programme to have more California-breds. I will be in touch with the breeding community and the head of the breeders' association to see what we can do. Maybe better stallions are a part of that.

"The fields are small and it hurts the business. We need more California-breds."
