Statehood gives Kodiac a world record 52nd two-year-old winner
Tally-Ho sire surpasses the high mark set by the legendary Sunday Silence
Tally-Ho Stud's Kodiac created history on Thursday afternoon when Statehood made a winning debut to give the sire a 52nd winner from his current crop of two-year-olds, a tally that betters the record set by the legendary Sunday Silence in 2004.
Trained by Charlie Appleby, Statehood took a little while to master On The Warpath, but once the penny dropped he went to the front and ultimately became the 52nd winner from Kodiac's eighth crop with something to spare.
Statehood's success continued the unrivalled run Kodiac has had with his two-year-olds in 2017. The son of Danehill had supplied the first 20 juvenile winners by the end of June, and surpassed his own European record of 43 two-year-old winners in September.
In recent weeks there has been an air of inevitability about Sunday Silence's record falling, with the writing well and truly on the wall for the son of Halo when Overcoming drew Kodiac level on 51 juvenile winners at Dundalk on Wednesday night.
With the best part of two months left before Kodiac's current juvenile crop turn three, there remains plenty of time for the Tally-Ho resident to set the bar even higher still.
Bred by Patrick Cassidy, the record-breaking Statehood was a 200,000gns purchase by John Ferguson at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2015. Out of the unraced Dubai Destination mare Analysis, his family includes champion three-year-old Dancing Brave.
