Son of Zarkava dies after one season at stud in Argentina
Five-year-old Zarkar was by Galileo
The South American stallion ranks have suffered the loss of one of their best bred members, with the death of Zarkar from a fractured tibia sustained in a paddock accident at Haras La Numancia in Buenos Aires, Argentina, this week.
The unraced five-year-old was by arguably the world's best stallion, Galileo, out of the unbeaten Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Zarkava, making him a half-brother to the high-class colt Zarak, runner-up in the Prix Ganay on Monday.
Zarkar covered a book of 64 in his first season at Numancia last year including some high-class mares such as Grade 1 winner Mama Delia.
Zarkava produced a filly foal by Siyouni in March and has been covered by Dubawi.
She also has a three-year-old colt by Redoute's Choice named Zarmitan, a two-year-old filly by Frankel and an Invincible Spirit yearling colt.
