The sole crop of Reckless Abandon, who was removed from covering duties midway through his maiden season at stud due to fertility issues, threw up its first winner on Saturday, as Guessthebill showed the benefit of experience to run out a cosy winner of the 5f maiden at Navan.

Owned and bred by David Bobbett, the colt is the first foal out of the 6f Fibresand winner Tussie Mussie, a daughter of Royal Applause whose third and final spin through the sales ring saw her fetch €90,000 from Derryluskin Stud while carrying Guessthebill.

Tussie Mussie is a sister to Lovelace, winner of a mile Group 2 in Germany and the 7f Group 3 Supreme Stakes at Goodwood.

Guessthebill is one of 18 sons and daughters of Reckless Abandon registered in training.

Reckless Abandon shot to prominence as a talented two-year-old, winning both the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes, both over 6f, while with Clive Cox.

He was retired to Darley's Kildangan Stud at a fee of €10,000 in 2014, but, having suffered with fertility issues, was removed from stallion duties and put back into training with Charlie Appleby.

The son of Exchange Rate was twice placed in Listed contests subsequently, but having failed to reach the heights of his juvenile campaign was retired for a second time at the end of his four-year-old campaign.

He has since been gelded and embarked on a career as a polo pony.
