Reliable Man supplies first winner on Oaks day at Trentham

Reliable Man supplied his first winner on Oaks day at Trentham in New Zealand on Friday as his daughter Belle Du Nord won a 6f juvenile contest.

The two-year-old, who is out of the Volksraad mare Bankside Belle, was bred by Nearco Stud and sold for NZ$50,000 (£28,300/€32,600) as a yearling at Karaka.

Belle Du Nord finished second on her previous start in February and was held up off the pace by jockey Lisa Allpress. She quickened in the straight to come home three and three-quarter lengths ahead of her ten rivals.

The David Browne-trained filly is likely to make her next start in the 7f Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes on March 31.

Reliable Man - who won the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick - stands at Westbury Stud in New Zealand and Gestut Rottgen in Germany, where he is currently standing at a fee of €6,000.

His first northern hemisphere progeny will be two-year-olds in 2017.
