Regally bred runners set to star at seaside venue Yarmouth

The glorious May weather that goes hand in hand with the beginning of summer has helped attract not just racegoers to Yarmouth on Wednesday, but also a number of regally bred visitors.

Perhaps the unluckiest horse never to win a Pattern race is Romsdal, a Listed winner who placed five times in Group contests, including the Derby, St Leger, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

His Lawman half-brother Dixon is one of a trio of newcomers declared for the eight-runner 1m3½f maiden for three-year-olds which takes place an hour earlier (5.20pm).

Trained by Mark Tompkins, for whom he was a 45,000gns Book 2 yearling purchase at Tattersalls, Dixon was bred by the Barnett family out of the Singspiel mare Pure Song.

Pure Song also produced the Listed-placed Dutch Art filly Pure Art, and has an unraced two-year-old Poet's Voice gelding named Cracker Factory and a yearling Exceed And Excel colt.

In turn, she is out of champion three-year-old filly Pure Grain, who was third in the Oaks and won both the Irish and Yorkshire versions, and a half-sister to the French Group 3 winner Goncharova.

David Simcock saddles two regally-bred runners, including the newcomer Stockton.

Bred and now part-owned by Fitri Hay, Stockton was bred on the same cross as Frankel - by Galileo out of the Grade 3-placed Danehill mare Walklikeanegyptian, a three-parts sister to Italian Oaks scorer Contredanse and Nassau Stakes winner Callwood Dancer.

That makes Stockton a brother to Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes winner and Arlington Million third Deauville, and the Simcock-trained Group 3 scorer The Corsican.

Of those with experience, Lethal Impact has raced twice with his best effort when finishing sixth in a 1m3f maiden on his first start at three.

Bred by Northern Farm, he was the most expensive of eight foals purchased by David Redvers at the 2014 JRHA Select Sale in Japan.

Lethal Impact is a Deep Impact sister to Japanese Oaks heroine Mikki Queen, out of the Gold Away mare Musical Way who finished third in the Hong Kong Cup and winner of a Group 2 at Longchamp.

She also has a two-year-old Empire Maker colt and a yearling Orfevre filly.
