More joy for Cityscape as Give And Take skips to Musidora Stakes success

The first crop of Overbury Stud's Cityscape produced a third black-type winner this season when Give And Take stayed on best to land the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York on Wednesday.

The three-year-old filly's stakes-race breakthrough follows on from the successes of Dan's Dream - who landed the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes before running down the field in the 1,000 Guineas - and The Broghie Man, who kicked his season off with a win in the Listed Committed Stakes last month.

In the aftermath of the race William Haggas expressed reservations about Give And Take's stamina for the Oaks trip but, on paper at least, there is plenty to suggest that she might have inherited the right genes to stay such a distance.

She was bred by Nicholas Jones's Coln Valley Stud in Gloucestershire, and is out of the Montjeu mare Grace And Glory - an unraced sister to the top-class Fame And Glory, whose race record includes five Group 1 wins gained over distances up to 2m4f in the Gold Cup.

She is also a sister to Yummy Mummy, the dam of 1,000 Guineas, Nassau Stakes and Matron Stakes heroine Legatissimo. The daughter of Danehill Dancer was also beaten just a short head by Qualify in the 2015 Oaks.

There is more top-level form further back in the family, with Preis von Europa winner Gonbarda and her dual Group 1-winning son Farhh appearing beneath Give And Take's third dam, the German 1,000 Guineas winner Grimpola.

But perhaps Give And Take has taken more from her sire than her distaff line, as Cityscape produced his best performance over 1m1f, and is by the top-class miler Selkirk.

Cityscape is also a half-brother to the high-class sprinter Bated Breath, whose best efforts on Racing Post Ratings came over 6f when second to Dream Ahead in the July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup.

Regardless of how much stamina he has imparted to Give And Take, Dubai Duty Free winner Cityscape has undoubtedly got off to a fine start at life at Overbury Stud, supplying 32 European winners at a winners-to-runners strike rate of over 31 per cent.

Despite his first crop having been conceived at a fee of just £5,000, he has supplied six stakes performers from just 32 runners, for a strike rate of 19 per cent stakes horses-to-runners.
