More Group 1 honours for Wootton Bassett's Almanzor
The colt landed the Prix du Jockey Club earlier this year
Almanzor continued his steep upward trajectory as he claimed a second Group 1 victory in a vintage renewal of the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday evening.
The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt has been a real flag bearer for his sire Wootton Bassett throughout the 2016 season, having provided the stallion with a first top-level winner when claiming the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly back in June.
Wootton Bassett, an eight-year-old son of Iffraaj, was bred by Melba Bryce's Laundry Cottage Stud and is out of the winning Primo Dominie mare Balladonia, who has produced a further eight winners, including Wootton Bassett's Listed-placed half-brother Mister Hardy.
