Lethal four: quickfire quartet of new winners for Cheveley Park sire

First-season sire Lethal Force has been in lethal form in the last three days, recording four new winners with across-the-card doubles on Saturday and Monday.

The Mick Channon-trained filly Tricksy Spirit initiated the hot spell by running out a commanding winner of a 6f novice auction stakes at Goodwood on Saturday, and later in the afternoon the Brian Meehan-saddled colt Barbarianatthegate scored decisively over 7f at Chester.

Then on Monday, the only two runners by Lethal Force in Britain both shed their maiden tags.

Show Of Force, a filly trained by Jonathan Portman, scored by a neck in a 1m novice auction stakes at Chepstow, while Deadly Accurate, a colt sent out by Hughie Morrison, struck by half a length in a similar category of race over 7f at Epsom.

Lethal Force had been a little slow out of the blocks compared with some of his freshman rivals this season but his four new winners take him to an overall tally of 13 – only one behind Havana Gold and Red Jazz and four behind frontrunner Society Rock.

It is notable too, that two of the Cheveley Park Stud resident's highest rated offspring are actually still maidens: Would Be King, who has finished placed in the Marble Hill Stakes and Tyros Stakes, and Mokaatil, a close fourth in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

So it looks as though the sire has several winners waiting to happen.

Co-incidentally, Lethal Force also put in some fine runs at two –finishing fourth in the Coventry Stakes and Vintage Stakes – but only gracing a winner's enclosure for the first time aged three.

The son of the growingly influential Dark Angel went on to win the Hungerford Stakes at three and notched a big Group 1 sprint double at four in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and July Cup.

The best performer sired by Lethal Force to date on Racing Post Ratings is Prince Of The Dark – like his sire, trained by Clive Cox for Alan Craddock – and not seen since finishing sixth in the Coventry Stakes.
