Kodiac takes another swing at record with Island Drive
Son of Danehill supplied 43 two-year-old winners in 2014
Island Drive, out of dual Group 3 winner Redstone Dancer, will aim to give her sire Kodiac another juvenile winner when she lines up in the 6f novice stakes at Kempton on Wednesday (7.25pm).
The son of Danehill is already more than halfway towards beating his record of 43 juvenile winners in a single season, a record he set in 2014.
Trained by William Haggas and to be ridden by Danny Tudhope, Island Drive is set to take on 11 opponents, with five of those also newcomers.
Bred by Ken Lynch and owned by Clipper Logistics, Island Drive is a sibling to one other winner in Alnaahee, a son of Teofilo who was a winner in Greece. The pair's dam showed far more prowess during her racing career, however, winning the Minstrel Stakes and the Brownstown Stakes - both Group 3s over 7f- in 2007.
Redstone Dancer, who also produced a brother to Island Drive in 2016, hails from the family of 1985 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Rainbow Quest.
Island Drive was sold by Ballybin Stud to agent Jamie Railton for 44,000gns as a foal, who subsequently resold him to Joe Foley for 88,000gns as a yearling at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Kodiac stood this season at a career-high fee of €50,000 at Tally-Ho Stud, which is ten times his initial fee when he entered the stallion ranks there in 2007.
