Kingman's first runner and the Craven Breeze-Up top lot catch the eye

Kevin Ryan is set to unleash this colt, the first runner by the much vaunted first-season sire Kingman – who lit up the 2014 Flat season with his stunning victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois.

Kingman is bred to succeed at stud, as a half-brother to Royal Ascot Group 3 winner Remote out of Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Zenda, herself a half-sister to leading sire Oasis Dream.

Kingman has a debut crop of 113 two-year-olds conceived at a fee of £55,000, and those who sold as yearlings achieved an eye-catching average price of 230,310gns.

Wild Hope, his pioneering runner, was actually one of his cheaper representatives, having been bought by Ryan and Stephen Hillen for owner Hambleton Racing for just 35,000gns from Book 2.

Bred by Watership Down Stud, he is out of the Dynaformer mare Wild Mimosa, a half-sister to Eclipse winner Compton Admiral, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Summoner and Ribblesdale Stakes runner-up Twyla Tharp, the dam of brilliant racemare The Fugue.

Mark Johnston trains this newcomer for her owner and breeder Kirsten Rausing. The sire Leroidesanimaux, the source of Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup victor Animal Kingdom, stood at Rausing's Lanwades Stud in Newmarket until his untimely death aged 15 in 2016.

The dam Lady Jane Digby, a half-sister to the high-class pair Gateman and Surprise Encounter, carried Rausing's silks to win seven races including the Group 1 Bayerisches Zuchtrennen.

Lady Jane Digby has produced three winners including the smart handicapper Galapiat.

The team behind Dante Stakes winner and Derby hopeful Roaring Lion – trainer John Gosden and owner Qatar Racing – are set to take the wraps off the two-year-old who commanded the highest price at last month's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.

Legends Of War was a $200,000 purchase at the short-lived Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Yearling Sale by Hunter Valley Farm and was knocked down to Stephen Hillen for an auction-topping 900,000gns when re-offered as a juvenile in Newmarket.

The colt owes his blockbuster price-tag mainly to the identity of his late sire. He hails from the final crop of the all-conquering Scat Daddy, who has enjoyed a momentous past few days with Justify clinching the second leg of the Triple Crown when triumphant in the Preakness Stakes, Sergei Prokofiev compounding his status as favourite for the Coventry Stakes with a dominant four-length victory in the Listed Rochestown Stakes and Sioux Nation getting back to winning ways in the Group 3 Lacken Stakes.

To boot, Scat Daddy's freshman sire son No Nay Never put a first stakes winner on the scoreboard with Listed scorer Servalan.

Legends Of War is out of the unplaced Rahy mare Madera Dancer, who in turn is out of the Listed-winning Danehill Dancer mare Maxxi Arte.

San Donato

Legends Of War is not the only expensive colt making his debut in the race, as San Donato was bought by trainer Roger Varian on behalf of owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum for 500,000gns from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale – the joint-third highest price of that auction.

San Donato is by Lope De Vega – sire of Varian's champion two-year-old and Lockinge Stakes winner Belardo – and was bred by James Hanly, Anthony Stroud and Skymarc Farm out of the Group 3-placed Acclamation mare Boston Rocker, a relation to the flying two-year-old filly Superstar Leo and Classic winners Footstepsinthesand and Power.

This may be only a Class 5 median auction maiden stakes but it features the debut of a very well bred colt in Dosc for trainer David O'Meara and owner Malih Al Basti.

He is by Dream Ahead out of Knocktoran Stud and Kildaragh Stud's grand mare Flanders – winner of the Listed Scarbrough Stakes and runner-up in the King's Stand Stakes and dam of 11 winners from 11 runners.

Flanders' 11 winners include G Force, victorious in the Haydock Sprint Cup; Laajooj, winner of the Listed Fairway Stakes; and Louvain, who landed the Grade 3 Miesque Stakes and produced the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Flotilla at stud.
