Kerri Radcliffe teams up with Waterhouse to secure A$1.2m Snitzel colt

A month after parting ways with Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Kerri Radcliffe was making a splash in Sydney on Monday, teaming up with legendary trainer Gai Waterhouse among others to land the second highest-priced lot on the opening day of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Radcliffe, buying on behalf of American owner George Bolton, famed for his association with stars like Curlin and Lady Aurelia, teamed up with Waterhouse and Blue Sky Bloodstock to go to A$1.2 million (£652,000/$920,000) for a son of Australia's champion sire Snitzel offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds.

It was Julian Blaxland of Blue Sky Bloodstock who did the bidding on the colt, with Waterhouse, who will train him in partnership with Adrian Bott, having left strict instructions not to miss out on the yearling.

"It's so amazing to buy a colt by the leading sire in Australia - it's an incredible feeling," said Radcliffe.

"George Bolton, who has supported me and has been unbelievable, asked me to buy for him in Australia. He already has a couple with Gai so I got together with her and we decided that we must have the colt. To be involved with Gai Waterhouse is absolutely amazing and also Julian, who is a great guy, so it’s a great partnership."

On bidding in partnership with Waterhouse, Radcliffe added: “Gai has been amazing with me. She is the most amazing woman. I aspire to be like her and I'm so grateful for her support.”

There has been no let up for Radcliffe following her Phoenix Thoroughbreds split and the Newmarket-based bloodstock agent has no intention of slowing down as sales continue around the globe.

"It took me a while to get my eye in here, because I’ve just come from looking at those big American dirt horses and European types, but you know a racehorse when you see one," she said.

"The whole world is on my radar at the moment! I'm here tomorrow, with a couple of fillies to bid on and then I have to get back to Newmarket for the Craven sale."

The Easter Yearling Sale continues until Wednesday, with the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale taking place next Monday to Wednesday.
