Irish Derby runner-up Kingfisher to join French stallion ranks

Kingfisher, runner-up in the 2014 Irish Derby and 2015 Gold Cup at Ascot, has been retired and will stand as a jumps sire at Haras du Mont Goubert in Normandy, France, where he will stand at a fee of €2,500.

The six-year-old son of Galileo was trained by Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien and owned by the Coolmore partners, with leading Australian owner Lloyd Williams joining them in the latter part of Kingfisher's racing career.

Bred by Whisperview Trading, Kingfisher is a brother to stakes performers Cocoon and Finn McCool, out of Listed-winning Halling mare Mystical Lady.

Mystical Lady is a half-sister to the Classic-placed Furner's Green and Lady Lupus and granddaughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Sonic Lady.

Kingfisher was runner-up in the Irish Derby to stablemate Australia and second to Trip To Paris in the Gold Cup at Ascot a year later, for which he earned a career-high Racing Post Rating of 116.
