Invincible Spirit filly out of Cassandra Go set to light up Book 1
Daughter of brilliant stallion and top sprinter is 'the real deal'
If Marsha or Priceless manage to beat the boys in the Group 2 Qatar King George Stakes at Goodwood on Friday, it will evoke memories of the last-gasp victory of the great Cassandra Go under Michael Roberts in the millennium edition of the race.
Cassandra Go went on to win the Temple Stakes and King's Stand Stakes in the following season - famously while in foal to Green Desert - and she has blossomed into an exceptional broodmare for her owner Trevor Stewart.
The daughter of Indian Ridge has produced six winners including Classic heroine Halfway To Heaven - dam of this season's 1,000 Guineas and Oaks runner-up Rhododendron - as well as high-class sprinter Tickled Pink and the smart Theann, the dam of dual US Grade 1 scorer Photo Call.
Cassandra Go has enriched Stewart's bank balance as well as his enjoyment of the sport, with Theann and Halfway To Heaven sold for €400,000 and €450,000, and her Shamardal colt making 1,700,000gns at Tattersalls in 2014. The owner and breeder also sold a Dark Angel colt out of Tickled Pink for 500,000gns last year.
This year Ballyhimikin Stud is selling another rare jewel out of Cassandra Go on behalf of Stewart at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale: a filly by Invincible Spirit whose athletic looks and outstanding page should ensure she commands another blockbuster price.
"She's very correct and a typical Invincible Spirit," said Ballyhimikin Stud's James Hanly. "She will make someone a fine racehorse and will potentially be a wonderful breeding prospect. She's the real deal."
Explaining why anyone would want to part with such a precious commodity, Hanly added: "Trevor has two daughters of Cassandra Go to breed from, as well as two granddaughters, so that probably helped him to decide to sell this mare."
Cassandra Go - "a very youthful looking 21" - has no foal but is safely pregnant to Gleneagles.
Book 1 takes place in Newmarket this year from October 3 to 5.
