Inspection at Doncaster as rain leads to breeze-up concerns

Officials at Goffs UK will inspect the track at Doncaster following the recent wet weather but insist next week's Breeze-Up Sale will go ahead, even if the course succumbs to the elements

The wet weather has wreaked havoc across Britain, with several race meetings having been abandoned due to waterlogging and a host of cards later in the week also under threat of being cancelled, leading to concerns that the sales could be similarly impacted.

A total of 207 lots are catalogued to breeze on the Town Moor turf at 10am next Monday and Goffs UK managing director Tony Williams said: "There's concerns with weather everywhere. At this point in time we're inspecting the track later this week and trying to make sure we've got plan b in place if need be."

Light rain is forecast for Doncaster on Wednesday before a dry spell leading into the weekend, when showers could return.

There are no such concerns though at Ascot, despite the forecast for showers, with horses set to breeze on a fresh strip of ground on Wednesday prior to the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot sale.

Officials were pleased following Tuesday's private practice breeze at the course and bloodstock sales manager Richard Botterill said: "The great thing about Ascot is there is fantastic drainage. Chris Stickels and his team have done a fantastic job."
