'He just keeps finding enough and he just keeps going'
Unowhatimeanharry was bred by former trainer Graham Smith
How did you acquire Unowhatimeanharry’s dam Red Nose Lady? I trained the mare myself when I had a licence, having bought her at the Doncaster sales for 4,200gns. We won two hurdle races with her and then decided to put her in foal. We have since sold her to a breeder in Northern Ireland, who bred a Tikkanen filly out of her.
Why did you send Red Nose Lady to Sir Harry Lewis? Joss Hanbury, who hunts down the road here, put his mare in foal with Sir Harry Lewis and he suggested I use him as well. We bred two by Sir Harry Lewis and she also produced a filly by Indian Danehill.
What do you remember of Unowhatimeanharry when he was younger? We raised him until he was four. He always galloped and he always jumped, but by that time I had handed in my licence and we were busy with other things, so we decided to sell him. We put an advert in an equestrian magazine and a lady rang up, it was her 50th birthday and she bought him. She put him in training with a friend and they won a bumper. The next thing you know, the horse popped up with Harry Fry and the rest is history!
Do you think he can live up to favouritism at Cheltenham? I think if he's in good form, there's nothing there that can beat him. He just keeps finding enough and just keeps going. From day one he was a brilliant jumper and is a game little horse with a good attitude. He loves it around Cheltenham. He’s probably not very flash but he’s a battler and is an out-and-out stayer.
Unowhatimeanharry cements Stayers' banker status with classy win
