Half-brother to Manduro off the mark on second start

Hipster Boy - a Dubawi half-brother to the 2007 world champion Manduro - got off the mark on his second start in the second division of the novice stakes over 1m½f at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

Ridden by Robert Havlin, Hipster Boy took the lead inside the final furlong, seeing off the Intello colt Profound by a head.

Bred by Godolphin, Hipster Boy is the third winner for HH Sheikha Al Jalila Racing since the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed and Princess Haya inherited the famous maroon and white silks worn by the likes of Oh So Sharp, Pebbles and Ajdal.

Manduro's Grade 1 haul in 2007 included the Prix d'Ispahan, Prince Of Wales's Stakes and Prix Jacques Le Marois, and he is the sire of six top-flight winners including Ultra and Vazirabad.

Another half-sister Mandela won a Listed trial and was third in the German Oaks before producing World Ace, a Japanese Grade 2 winner over a mile and runner-up in the Japanese equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas.

Their dam Mandellicht was acquired for Godolphin by Dick O’Gorman at the 2007 renewal of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, after he parted with three million guineas to secure her, though sadly she died in 2015.

Hipster Boy is the second of three winners by Dubawi out of Be My Guest mares - the other being Group 3 Chester Vase scorer Mickdaam - and he will have entered plenty of notebooks after Saturday's taking success.
