Group 1-winning sprinter Profitable to stand at Kildangan

Darley's Kildangan Stud roster has gained a notable recruit for the 2018 breeding season, with Group 1-winning sprinter Profitable due to take up covering duties at a fee of €12,000.

Trained by Clive Cox throughout his 23-race career, Profitable won five races - all over 5f - and retires having banked earnings of £620,350. He got off the mark during July of his juvenile season, and maintained a steady but relentless upward trajectory right through into this four-year-old campaign.

The highlight of his racing career came when landing the 2016 King's Stand Stakes, when a potent blend of speed and determination saw him defeat Cotai Glory by a neck. That victory followed on from success in the Group 2 Temple Stakes, in which he achieved a peak Racing Post Rating of 120 in seeing off the likes of Mecca's Angel and Waady.

He was purchased privately by Godolphin prior to the 2017 season, during which he proved a model of consistency, having finished second to Lady Aurelia in the most recent running of the King's Stand and a highly creditable third to Battaash in the Prix de l'Abbaye on what proved to be his final start.

"Profitable has a wonderful temperament and has been an absolute delight to train," said Clive Cox. "He has been a top-class 5f horse throughout, performing at the highest level and saved his best performances for Royal Ascot. I will certainly be looking out for his progeny at the sales."

His proclivity for sprinting came as no surprise given his lineage, as he is a son of Invincible Spirit, an emerging force as a sire of sires, and out of the winning Indian Ridge mare Dani Ridge.

A 95,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 yearling, he is a brother to two winners and a half-brother to a further six, most notably Group 3-winning sprinter Ridge Ranger and Albany Stakes third Danidh Dubai.

Godolphin chief executive Joe Osborne said: "Profitable is an especially well-made horse, powerful and strikingly handsome. We are big fans of his sire line, and Cape Cross, who was bred on a similar cross, was a great success here. We are very much looking forward to showing him off to breeders."
