Glittering win for Goldrush in Listed race
Daughter of Frankel and Alexander Goldrun sparkles at Dundalk
Sometimes, but certainly not always, the old maxim of breeding the best to the best plays out in spectacular fashion - first in the sales ring and then on the racecourse.
Goldrush, winner of the Listed Carlingford Stakes at Dundalk on Friday night, is no exception and when the daughter of Frankel and five-time Group 1 winner Alexander Goldrun paraded through the ring at the 2015 Goffs Orby Sale, a flurry of bids saw her eventually knocked down to China Horse Club for €1.7 million.
Trained by Jim Bolger and ridden by Kevin Manning, Goldrush began to justify her lofty price-tag when she made her belated debut in a mile maiden at Navan in early September and showed her 17 rivals a clean pair of heels.
Taking on her elders on Friday on just her second start, the three-year-old Goldrush took up the lead inside the final furlong and saw off the five-year-old Lawman gelding Marshall Jennings by just under a length, with the eight-year-old Johann Bach a half length back in third.
Frankel also recorded a juvenile winner earlier in the day with the regally bred filly Veracious drawing four lengths clear in a hotly contested 7f maiden at Newmarket, seeing off Thunder Snow's half-sister Winter Lightning into second, with Finsceal Beo's half-sister Final Treat a length and a half back in third.
A Cheveley Park Stud homebred, Veracious is out of Group 3 winner and Coronation and Falmouth Stakes second Infallible, making her a half-sister to Mutakayyef, twice a winner of the Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot, and Intimation, the Listed winner who will line up in the Group 3 Darley Club Stakes at 5.25 at Newmarket on Saturday.
