Flying freshman Dabirsim given hefty fee increase for 2018

Leading first-season sire Dabirsim is to stand next year's breeding season at Haras de Grandcamp in Normandy at a significantly increased fee of €30,000, up from just €9,000 in 2017.

"He's had an exceptional year in the ring and on the track," said Grandcamp's Eric LHermite. "Monsieur Springer [Simon, owner] has refused some very big offers for the horse so I'm delighted.

"He already has 200 mares booked for next year. We will be capping the number and making a selection."

Dabirsim, who landed the Prix Morny and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere during an unbeaten juvenile campaign, has supplied 14 winners, headed by the Albany Stakes heroine Different League, who has also finished third in the Prix Morny and second in the Cheveley Park Stakes.

The son of Hat Trick's first crop, which has yielded four black-type performers, was conceived at Gestut Karlshof in Germany, where he stood two seasons at €9,000.

The immense promise of Dabirsim's early runners has also been reflected in a series of big prices being paid for his progeny at this season's yearling sales, headed by a pair of €500,000 lots.

That sum was first reached by Alastair Donald, who signed for a colt out of Chica Loca during the Goffs Orby Sale. The €500,000 mark was hit for the second time during Tuesday's session of the Arqana October Yearling Sale, when Charlie Gordon-Watson signed for the sale-topping filly out of Amour Eternel.
