Five out of five for You'resothrilling as Happily bags Group 3
The Pentagon lands Tyros Stakes to give Galileo stakes performer 416
Five runners, five black type performers: that is the record of You'resothrilling after her two-year-old daughter Happily ran away with the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Having been settled in behind the leaders by Ryan Moore, Happily took closer order as the field turned into the straight, and having led with over a furlong to go she bounded clear to win by five lengths.
You'resothrilling, a daughter of Storm Cat, has already been represented by champion three-year-old miler Gleneagles, who landed the National Stakes, St James's Palace Stakes and both the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas, as well as Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Marvellous, and in Happily she could well have another Group 1 winner to add to her already mightily impressive broodmare record.
Her other runners are Coolmore, winner of the Group 3 C L and M F Weld Park Stakes, and the Group 3-placed Taj Mahal, with all five of her offspring being by Coolmore kingpin Galileo.
That You'resothrilling has proved to be such a prolific producer isn't a complete surprise, as not only was she herself a high-class runner, having won the 2007 Cherry Hinton Stakes, but she also boasts a flawless pedigree.
She is out of the Rahy mare Mariah's Storm, which makes her a sister to three black type performers, most notably Giant's Causeway, whose six Group 1 victories earned him the nickname 'the Iron Horse'.
Her family is one of the most active around, as names such as Decorated Knight, winner of this year's Group 1 Jebel Hatta and Tattersalls Gold Cup, and the Great Voltigeur winner Storm The Stars both appear under Mariah's Storm's name on the pedigree page.
The Pentagon defends big reputation
Not content with adding just the one new black type performer to his record, Galileo's two-year-old son The Pentagon became the sire's 416th stakes-class runner when justifying the pre-race hype in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt showed signs of greenness when the race began to take shape with around a quarter of a mile to go, but having worked his way to the front inside the final furlong he soon stamped his authority to win by one and three-quarter lengths.
In securing victory The Pentagon was following in the footsteps of the likes of Churchill, Gleneagles, Zoffany, New Approach and Teofilo.
That lineage makes The Pentagon a half-brother to a host of talented performers, including the Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris winner Vadamar, the Listed-winning Vedouma, and the Group 3 runner-up Vedevani.
Further back it is the family of two-time Group 1 winner Valixir, whose top-flight victories were gained in the Prix d'Ispahan and the Queen Anne Stakes, and Prix du Moulin winner and now Tally-Ho Stud resident Vadamos.
The Pentagon also becomes the latest Group-race winner to have been supplied by a mare sold by the Aga Khan, after the powerful owner-breeder's operation sold Vadawina to Horse France for €600,000 during the 2013 Arqana December Sale.
The 15-year-old mare also has a yearling filly by Galileo on the ground.
