First test for colt bred on same cross as Night Of Thunder

The pairing of Dubawi with daughters of Galileo has already produced a Classic winner in Night Of Thunder - remembered for veering markedly across the Rowley Mile - and Dartmouth, who added a second Group 2 trophy to his cabinet in this year's Yorkshire Cup.

Remarkably, those two Pattern winners emerged despite only 14 runners representing the cross to date, with the promising newcomer Dubhe set to be the next.

Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, Dubhe will face his first test when lining up against ten opponents in the first division of a 7f juvenile maiden at Newbury on Friday (1.40).

Bred by Kincorth Investments, Dubhe is the second foal out of 2012 Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens, who has also produced a yearling Dansili colt and a foal sister to Dubhe.

Great Heavens is one of no less than eight stakes winners out of the blue hen mare Magnificient Style.

Among Magnificient Style's other notable performers are dual Group 1 winner and second-season sire Nathaniel, whose daughter Enable is the cream of this year's three-year-old crop of fillies having sealed another Oaks success at the Curragh on Saturday.

Magnificient Style also produced the Fillies' Mile heroine Playful Act and Percussionist who, like Dartmouth, is on the roll of honour of the Yorkshire Cup.

Magnificient Style is in turn a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Siberian Summer.

Dubhe, who holds early entries in the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes and next year's Derby, makes his debut half an hour before the equally exciting Elsaakb.

Elsaakb - a $475,000 purchase for Shadwell at last year's Keeneland September Sale - will make his debut in the colours of Hissa Hamdan Al Maktoum in the second division (2.10).

Trained by John Gosden and ridden by Jim Crowley, Elsaakb will face three other newcomers in the 11-runner field.

The colt is an Exchange Rate half-brother to the champion US sprinter and three-time Group 1 winner Runhappy, out of the winning Broken Vow mare Bella Jolie.

Bella Jolie is a half-sister to the stakes performers Millenium Storm, Merrill Gold and Itsabeautifulthing, and also has a three-year-old Lookin At Lucky colt.

Trained by Maria Borrell, Runhappy won the King's Bishop Stakes and Breeders' Cup Sprint, before being switched to the yard of Laura Wohlers, for whom he won the Malibu Stakes.

Runhappy was retired to Claiborne Farm in Kentucky this year, and stood his first season at a fee of $25,000.
