First European winner for globetrotting Reliable Man
Son of Dalakhani shuttles between Germany and New Zealand
Reliable Man - who won Group 1s in both hemispheres, most notably the 2011 Prix du Jockey Club - supplied his first northern hemisphere winner since retiring to stud courtesy of Narella's win in a 7f maiden at Cologne on Sunday.
A Gestut Rottgen homebred, Narella is a half-sister to two winners in Nelke and Novalis, out of the 1m1f German Listed winner Naomia, who in turn is out of the Oaks d'Italia scorer Nagoya.
Trained by Andreas Helfenbein and ridden by Markus Klug, Narella was two and a half lengths of her nearest pursuer come the line.
Reliable Man has already made a positive start to his stud career at Westbury Stud in New Zealand, having supplied the 7f Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes second Belle Du Nord.
Trained at the beginning of his racing career by Alain de Royer-Dupre, Reliable Man was unraced at two, but won his first three starts at three, a hat-trick that culminated with victory in the 2011 Prix du Jockey Club.
His best effort at four saw him finish a close fourth to Danedream in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Switched to the care of Chris Waller at five, Reliable Man joined an elite club of Group 1 scorers in both hemispheres by winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
Reliable Man was then retired, and now shuttles between Westbury and Gestut Rottgen, where he has stood the past four seasons at a fee of €6,000.
