Extreme Choice, winner of the Group 1 Blue Diamond and Moir Stakes, and Flying Artie, who struck at the top level in the Coolmore Stakes and finished placed in both the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper, have been retired and will start their stallion careers at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley later this year.

Extreme Choice, a son of the in-demand Redoute's Choice stallion Not A Single Doubt, finished third to Redkirk Warrior as the favourite in the Newmarket Stakes this month on what turned out to be his last start.

Flying Artie, the best son of Breeders' Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller on Racing Post Ratings, was second to Extreme Choice in the Blue Diamond and third behind Capitalist and Yankee Rose in the Golden Slipper.

The pair are part of a trio of outstanding three-year-old sprinters who are joining the Newgate roster this year, along with Capitalist.

Capitalist, a son of Written Tycoon, is already fully booked for 2017 the stud has announced, weeks after releasing his introductory stud fee of A$55,000 (£33,910/€40,055).

Newgate director of stallions and sales Bruce Slade said: "The demand for his services have been intense since announcing his fee a couple of weeks ago. We feel humbled that virtually every top breeder in the nation will be supporting him this season."

Fees for Extreme Choice and Flying Artie will be announced in the coming weeks.

Speaking about the new intake at Newgate, Slade added: "We feel honoured to be standing these very special colts. They are the elite Australian two and three-year-old sprinters of their generation, the cream of the crop. They are horses with exactly the right profiles to develop into champion Australian sires."
