First-season sire Famous Name posted the first stakes winner of his stud career when his son Escobar produced an impressive performance to land the Listed Washington Singer Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

The Hugo Palmer-trained juvenile had made a successful debut at the course over 7f in July and on his return to the track found a quick turn of foot to win by one and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Peter Evans, Escobar is the sixth foal out of the Group-placed and winning Brief Truce mare Saying Grace. He is a half-brother to the winners and Listed-placed duo Ghetto Gospel and Bobbi Grace.
