Inside Information, the US champion older mare in 1995, died from natural causes due to old age at Claiborne Farm on Saturday. She was 26.

Foaled at Claiborne in 1991, Inside Information - a daughter of Private Account out of the Key To The Mint mare Pure Profit - won 14 of her 17 career starts and was a six-time Grade 1 winner. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008.

An Ogden Mills Phipps homebred, Inside Information was trained by another Hall of Fame inductee in Shug McGaughey. She scored on debut at Belmont Park as a juvenile and the following year won six of her seven starts, including the Ashland Stakes and Acorn Stakes, both at the highest level.

At four, Inside Information powered 13 and a half lengths clear under a Mike Smith hand-ride to win the Breeders' Cup Distaff, against a field that included Heavenly Prize, Lakeway and Serena's Song. She also posted victories in the Shuvee Handicap, Ruffian Handicap and Spinster Stakes at four.

Inside Information earned more than $1.5 million in prize-money and always achieved a podium finish during her career.

She returned to Claiborne Farm upon her retirement, and went on to produce Smuggler, the US champion three-year-old filly in 2005.

Inside Information will be buried at Claiborne's Marchmont cemetery.
