Medaglia D'Oro fee soars to $250,000 as Darley reacts to Breeders' Cup feats
Rise comes after son of El Prado supplied two new Grade 1 winners
Darley have re-adjusted the 2018 fee for their highflying Kentucky-based sire Medaglia D'Oro to $250,000, only weeks after having announced he would stand at Jonabell Farm next year at $200,000.
The figure of $200,000 was already an increase from $150,000 in 2017.
The second rise comes after the 18-year-old son of El Prado supplied two new Grade 1 winners at the Breeders' Cup meeting at Del Mar at the weekend – Talismanic in the Turf and Bar Of Gold in the Filly and Mare Sprint – to cap an outstanding year in which he was represented by further top-level scorers Bolt D'Oro, Dickinson, Elate, New Money Honey and Songbird.
The brilliant filly Songbird topped the Fasig-Tipton November Breeding-Stock Sale on Monday when sold to Mandy Pope for $9.5 million.
Darren Fox, nominations sales manager at Darley in America, said: “Even before the Breeders’ Cup, the demand for Medaglia D’Oro was extremely high. After the wins by Bar Of Gold and Talismanic this past Saturday, we feel it incumbent on us to listen to what the market is telling us and adjust his fee accordingly.
“We have always set our fees at fair and competitive levels and we think that this is certainly in line with that historical approach.”
The $250,000 fee will apply to a limited number of remaining seasons.
