Dual Group 1-winning miler The Gurkha has been retired and will start his stallion career at Coolmore in County Tipperary next year.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained son of Galileo underwent surgery for a displaced colon at Fethard Equine Hospital last month, a procedure that had ruled him out of racing again this year.

The Gurkha retires as the winner of three of his six starts - a Navan maiden by nine lengths, the Poule d'Essai des Poulains by five and a half lengths and the Sussex Stakes in a thrilling neck verdict over Galileo Gold.
