Charm the name of the game as she opens her account

A glitzy pedigree duly obliged at Newmarket on Saturday when Poetic Charm, a half-sister to leading stallion Teofilo, was a ready winner over 7f on her debut.

The Charlie Appleby-trained filly had been held up in the early stages and while she was short of room two furlongs out, she hit the front under William Buick. Running on despite drifting left, she went on to score by a length.

Her family has never been far from hitting the high notes as her illustrious half-brother was a Jim Bolger homebred who was crowned champion two-year-old in 2006. His juvenile season had seen him land the National and Dewhurst Stakes, but he was not to be seen again after being retired from racing at three.

Teofilo has passed on many of his talents to his progeny and he is responsible for 12 individual winners at the highest level including Havana Gold, Parish Hall, Quest For More and Palentino.

A Darley homebred by the operation's flagship sire Dubawi out of the Listed-winning Danehill mare Speirbhean, Poetic Charm is perhaps beginning to follow in the footsteps of her older half-brother as he too was off the mark on his debut in July of his juvenile season.

Poetic Charm is also a sister to Bean Feasa, who landed the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial earlier this year and was last seen finishing down the field in the Irish Oaks won by Enable on Saturday.
