Canford Cliffs has first stakes winner in southern hemisphere
Former shuttler will stand in South Africa for the 2018 breeding season
Canford Cliffs, who shuttled to Blue Gum Farm in Australia for five years but did not return for the 2017 southern hemisphere breeding season, was represented by a first stakes winner in the country when Cliff's Edge landed the Group 3 Caulfield Classic at Caulfield.
It caps off a good week for the sire as another of his sons, Wall Of Fire, finished second in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes ahead of a tilt at next month's Melbourne Cup.
The Darren Weir-trained Cliff's Edge dominated the race from the off and secured a comfortable victory over Tangled.
Purchased by Weir and John Foote Bloodstock at the second session of the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for A$60,000, Cliff's Edge is the tenth foal out of the winning Snaadee mare Stimulation.
He is a half-brother to the Listed-placed Delago's Land and is from the family of multiple Group/Grade 1 winner All Along.
Canford Cliffs has now sired eight individual stakes winners and will join the roster at Highlands Stud in South Africa for the 2018 breeding season, having spent the past six seasons at Coolmore's Irish base.
