How quickly fortunes can change in breeding, as Called To The Bar became a Group 3 winner for his exiled sire Henrythenavigator at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday.

The gelded Called To The Bar saw off his five entire opponents in the 1m4f Prix du Lys for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Despite being kept up to his work by Mickael Barzalona towards the finish, he never looked like relinquishing his lead and finished two lengths ahead of the Nayef colt Ice Breeze in second, with Dalakhani's Shakeel a length back in third.

A Fair Salinia homebred, Called To The Bar is one of four winners from five runners out of Prix Saint-Alary third Perfect Hedge, who has also produced the Listed-placed Stand My Ground and Defrost My Heart. She also has a two-year-old Invincible Spirit filly.

Perfect Hedge is a half-sister to the top-class Australian miler I'm Your Man, yet hails from a family that may be more familiar to jumps fans.

She is a sister to the high-class chaser Hoo La Baloo, out of a half-sister to the well regarded jumps sire Poliglote, who had the one-two in the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris on Sunday. Dual Grade 1-winning hurdler Footpad also appears on her page.

Henrythenavigator, a son of Kingmambo, was a dual Guineas winner and also won the St James's Palace and Sussex Stakes before his retirement to stud. He stood for four years in Ashford Stud in Kentucky because transferring to Coolmore in Ireland in 2013.

He has sired three juvenile Group 1 winners including Sudirman and Pedro The Great, both on the roll of honour of the Phoenix Stakes, and George Vancouver, winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

His stud fee had been in sharp decline before his departure to Russia last year.

Goldikova daughter shines as Treve's sister flops

Terrakova, a daughter of Galileo and Goldikova who holds entries to both the Prix de Diane and the Arc, lived up to her immaculate pedigree by winning the 1m2½f Prix Cleopatre for three-year-old fillies on the same card.

Trained by Freddie Head and ridden by Maxime Guyon, Terrakova surged out of the pack with 100 yards to go, to win by three-quarters of a length from Gentlewave filly Panthelia.

A Wertheimer homebred, Terrakova is the second foal out of the remarkable racemare Goldikova, who won no less than four renewals of the Prix Rothschild. Goldikova also demolished the opposition, which included Aqlaam and Virtual, in the 2009 Prix Jacques La Marois.

Goldikova is a half-sister to Gold Round, also on the roll of honour of the Prix Cleopatre, and both Prix Vermeille heroine Galikova and Prix Jacques La Marois runner-up Anodin.

Goldikova also has a yearling Intello filly named Goldika in France, and a Galileo filly foal.

Homebreds to the fore

Also on the same card, the Andre Fabre-trained pair of Sea The Stars filly Armande and Dansili colt Trais Fluors both won a stakes race for the first time, the former powering three lengths clear of her rivals in the 1m2½f Group 2 Prix Corrida, while the latter was one and a half-lengths clear of her nearest rival in the mile Listed Prix de Pontarme.

Both are out of Listed winners, Armande being out of the Verglas mare Alpine Snow, winner of - as seems appropriate - the Listed Prix Urban Sea at Le Lion D'Angers.

She is a half-sister to Terrubi, winner of a 1m6f Group 2 at Longchamp, out of a half-sister to the Tsui family's blue hen mare Urban Sea.

Alpine Snow also has a two-year-old Invincible Spirit colt named Rapture's Delight.

Trais Fluors, who is out of the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux winner Trois Lunes, holds an entry to both the Prix du Jockey Club and the Grand Prix de Paris.
