Bluebloods aplenty as well-bred newcomers appear on Saturday
Sons of Acclamation and Oasis Dream due to kick-start their careers
Al Shaqab Racing are set to introduce another regally bred two-year-old to the track on Saturday evening, with Al Barg due to go to post in the 7f Betfred TV EBF Novice Stakes at Haydock (7.00).
He is by Rathbarry Stud's flagship stallion Acclamation, who has produced high-class performers such as Equiano, Dark Angel, Marsha and Lilbourne Lad.
Al Barg, who cost Peter and Ross Doyle €135,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale last year, is a half-brother to Beach Bunny - a Listed-winning daughter of High Chaparral trained by Kevin Prendergast - and 6f maiden winner Robinson Cruso. He is also a brother to Endeavour, a 100,000gns yearling from Whatton Manor Stud whose 12 starts have yielded two minor victories.
Al Barg is out of the Peintre Celebre mare Miss Hawai, who has now produced seven six-figure yearlings, including the once-raced Hawaiian Heat - a €140,000 daughter of Galileo - and Pearl City, a daughter of Zamindar who fetched €140,000 from Cheveley Park Stud at the 2010 Arqana August Sale.
Another noteworthy newcomer in the race is the Tom Dascombe-trained Floreat Floreat. The March-born colt is by the shuttle sire Epaulette, a dual Group 1 winner and closely related to Helmet. Dascombe's colt is the ninth foal produced by his dam and is a half-brother to winners Montsarrat, Armandihan and Laguna Salada, a dual Listed winner in Italy.
Floreat Floreat's price rose from 23,000gns as a foal to 68,000gns as a yearling, suggesting he made plenty of physical progress in the year following his first trip to the sales.
Both of Epaulette's top-level victories came over 7f, and with several of Floreat Floreat's relatives having also scored over the intermediate distance this race looks an ideal starting point for the juvenile.
However, both Floreat Floreat and Al Barg will have to be well primed to make a winning debut, as they are coming up against two previous winners in Wasim, another son of Acclamation, and Veejay, a son of Approve.
Newbury newcomers
Newbury hosts the feature Saturday card where the Weatherbys Super Sprint takes centre stage. They also have a interesting looking 6f novice stakes which takes place directly after the day's feature at 4.10.
There are numerous interesting newcomers in the line-up, including Mick Channon's Helvetian, a colt by Swiss Spirit entered in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes next month. He is a 15th foal and a half-brother to eight winners, including the Listed scorer Fortunately. His pedigree is full of speedy types and he was bought for €33,000 by Gill Richardson Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale last year.
Other notable newcomers in the line-up include Denford Stud's homebred Dansili colt Bullingdon, and the Juddmonte homebred Usher, a gelded son of Oasis Dream from the family of Coventry Stakes winner Three Valleys - who was also first passed the post in the Middle Park Stakes before being disqualified.
Usher has the pedigree to make a winning debut, but Frankie Dettori's mount Ghayadh, a son of Kyllachy, will prove a very tough nut to crack having made a winning debut at Beverley last month.
