American Patriot to join the Darley roster in Japan
Grade 1-winning son of War Front will stand in Hokkaido in 2018
American Patriot, winner of the Grade 1 Maker's Mile Stakes at Keeneland in April, has been retired from racing and will join the Darley stallion roster in Japan, where he will be offered to breeders at a fee of ¥1.5 million.
Having broken his maiden, American Patriot went on to take the Grade 3 Kent Stakes in record time. His finest hour on the racecourse came almost exactly a year later, when he flew down the Keeneland straight to win the Maker's Mile, beating previous Grade 1 winner What A View in the process.
American Patriot hails from a very active family, with his half-brother and -sister both reaching the winner's enclosure in 2017. His dam is a sister to Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed and from the immediate female family of multiple champion and sire Symboli Kris S.
American Patriot becomes the first Grade 1-winning son on turf of successful US sire War Front to stand in Japan.
"War Front has established himself as one of the great turf sires in the world and his progeny have already won eight top-flight races on turf this year alone," said Harry Sweeney, president of Darley Japan. "American Patriot is a great-looking horse and we are really excited to have a grandson of Danzig standing at Darley Japan."
